"COINS OF ENGLAND" is a totally independent and truly International numismatic business which was originally formed in 1977 and is a 'twin' concern to our other well known and specialised military medal business "MEDALS OF ENGLAND" which itself was formed in 2007.

Both businesses are concerned with the location, procurement, purchase and sale of all coins, medals, banknotes and military items of interest to keen collectors and investors.

Both keen collectors and traders are very welcome to do business with us from any part of the world.

Our Director, Alan Thomas, is one of the longest served and best known numismatic experts in the world and has an entire lifetime of experience in these subjects.

Alan started collecting coins when he was just 5 years old when his grandad gave him a bag of old coins in 1957. He started collecting medals when he was 10 and has been a keen collector himself for over 50 years.....Alan has been a full time professional dealer in numismatics and it's many associated areas for 43 years and has operated the business over many years not only from the United Kingdom but also from The United States of America where he holds the UK record for the number of US Coin & Medal shows attended.

Alan is shown here centre with Eamon Holmes & Ruth Langsford on the set of ITV Breakfast Television in London. He has advised several TV & Film companies both here and in the USA on the historical accuracy of medals & coins used in their on screen productions. On this occasion he was speaking about the famous Princess Mary Christmas 1914 cigarette & tobacco brass gift boxes of The Great War.

Alan has always been at the forefront of technology in the business and amazingly he was THE FIRST dealer in the UK to have a mobile phone way back in 1981 ( The cost then was £3500 !!!! ) and he was also the first UK numismatic business to own a genuine computer on which he produced the UK's first ever computer generated sales list & catalogue. (An Apricot PC with a 10mb Winchester hard disc & dot matrix printer ! ...(£8500 the lot )

Now getting on for almost half a century, Alan has handled many famous and classic American rarities including the Finest Known 1796 “With Pole” U.S. Half Cent, and many rare English coins, banknotes & medals, including two VICTORIA Cross groups.

Alan is thus totally familiar with all aspects of the retail and wholesale numismatic & military markets and is always delighted to offer you his expertise in any way he can.
